How many days are between Thursday
and Monday?
To be able to answer this question,
we need to know not only the names of the days of the week, but also their
order. We’re given two days of the week,
Thursday and Monday. And we need to find how many days
are between them. And, of course, we know the word
between means in the middle of. To help us work out the answer,
let’s draw a timeline. And we’ll label all the days of the
week in order. We’ll start with Monday. And then the day after Monday is
Tuesday, then Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Those are our seven days of the
week in order.
Now the first day that’s mentioned
in our question is Thursday. We need to find out how many days
are between Thursday and Monday. So where’s Thursday on our
timeline? Let’s put a counter down to
show. Here it is. It’s the day after Wednesday, but
before Friday. Now the second day of the week we
need to look for is Monday. Now we know there’s a Monday before
Thursday, but we need to find a Monday that comes after Thursday. But where is it? We have Friday, then Saturday, then
Sunday. But we don’t have a Monday. Well, what happens after
Sunday?
After Sunday, a new week begins
again. So there’ll be another Monday, then
a Tuesday, and so on. Now we can put a counter down on
Monday. And we can see which days are
between Thursday and Monday. There’s Friday, Saturday, and then
Sunday. There are three days between
Thursday and Monday.
