40 divided by 10 equals what.

There are two ways we can think about this question. The first is to think about groups of 10. How many groups of 10 make 40? We can show the answer using tens rods. Each rod is worth 10. Two rods make 20. Three tens make 30. And four groups of 10 make 40, 10, 20, 30, 40. Four tens make 40.

Another way we can think of the question is to divide 40 into 10 equal groups. If we start with 40 and make 10 equal groups, how many will be in each group. Here are 10 groups. Let’s split up 40 counters so that each group has the same amount, 10 counters, 20 counters, 30 counters, 40 counters. There are four in each group. Whichever method we use, the answer is the same. Four groups of 10 make 40. And if we split 40 into 10 equal groups, there’s four in each group.

And so 40 divided by 10 equals four.
