What kind of transformation is shown in the figure?
First, let’s remind ourselves what kind of transformations there are. We have three main types of transformations. We have a rotation, which is a turn about a point; a reflection, which is a flip over a line; and a translation, which is a slide.
From these three types, rotation, reflection, and translation, which of these most closely explains what’s happening in our figure? In our figure, we have a line. And our original shape has been flipped over that line. The best description for the transformation happening here is a reflection. Our figure, our trapezoid, is being reflected over the blue line.
