Using the listing method, write the set of months of the year that begin with the letter “A.”
So in order to use the listing method, we will go through some choices. And then, whatever we choose, we will write in a set horizontally, left to right. And we’re looking for the months of the year that begin with the letter A. So first, let’s look at all of our choices, so all of the months of the year.
The months of the year include January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December. So which ones begin with the letter A? Not January; it begins with J. Not February; it begins with F. Not March; it begins with M. However, April, that’s begin with the letter A. So this will be the first one that we list in our listing method. So we draw a brace and we write the month of April.
So now, let’s keep looking. Not May; it begins with the letter M. Not June or July; they both begin with the letter J. However, August begins with the letter A. So we will write it next. So horizontally, we keep adding to our list. So we have April and August so far.
So next, there’re September, which doesn’t work because it begins with the letter S. And then, neither October, November, or December work. None of them begin with the letter A.
So this means our list is complete. So we need to add another brace to the end, making our list complete. So we have April and August and we use the listing method.
