Noah is using doubles facts. And we’re given a double fact: double three is six. The doubles fact which Noah is using to help him add is three plus three equals six. When we add two lots of the same number together, we call this doubling. So double three is six. The question asks us to use this double fact to help Noah find three plus five. We know that double three is six. So three plus five is six and how many more? Three plus five is six and two more.

And the final part of the question asks us, what is three plus five? If double three is six and three plus five is six plus two more, then we need to work out two more than six. One more than six is seven. Two more than six is eight.

We used double facts to help Noah add. Double three is six. We can use this fact to help us find three plus five. Three plus five is six and two more. So we can say that three plus five is equal to six plus two. Six plus two is eight.
