Anthony and Liam were seeing who could run farther in 10 seconds. Anthony only ran 18 meters because he tripped over. Liam ran 62 meters farther than Anthony. How many meters did Liam run? And how many meters did the boys run in total?

The first question wants to know how many meters did Liam run. We know that Liam ran 62 meters farther than Anthony. We also know that Anthony only ran 18 meters because he tripped over. And Liam ran 62 meters farther than Anthony.

To find the distance that Liam ran, we’ll need to add the distance that Anthony ran plus the distance farther than Anthony Liam ran. We need to add 18 meters and 62 meters. When we add 18 plus 62, we get a total of 80 meters. Liam ran a total of 80 meters.

However, we don’t just want to know how many meters Liam ran. We also want to know how many meters did the boys run in total. This means we’ll need to take the distance Anthony ran plus the distance Liam ran to find the total distance.

Anthony ran 18 meters before he fell down and Liam ran the full distance of 80 meters. 18 plus 80 equals 98. Together, the boys ran a total distance of 98 meters.
