What quadrant does the point negative six, negative eight lie in?

To answer this question, let’s sketch a graph and label the quadrants. In the top right is quadrant one. Top left is quadrant two. The bottom left is quadrant three. The bottom right is quadrant four.

In quadrant one, the 𝑥-coordinate is positive and so is the 𝑦-coordinate. In quadrant two, the 𝑥-coordinate is negative and the 𝑦-coordinate is positive. In quadrant three, both the 𝑥 and the 𝑦 have negative coordinates. In quadrant four, the 𝑥-coordinate is positive and the 𝑦-coordinate is negative.

When we look at negative six, negative eight, we see that both the 𝑥 and the 𝑦 are negative. The point negative six, negative eight must fall into quadrant three. Quadrant three is the third quadrant.
