Using the distributive property, rewrite the expression parentheses negative two 𝑥 minus eight close parenthesis multiplied by negative six.

In order to use this property, we need to distribute the negative two 𝑥 and the eight and multiply them both by negative six. Firstly, we need to multiply negative two 𝑥 by negative six, then we need to multiply eight by negative six.

It is important that we keep the subtraction sign in the same place in the expression. Negative two 𝑥 multiplied by negative six gives us 12𝑥, and eight multiplied by negative six is negative 48.

It is important this stage that we know what happens when we have two negative signs or minus signs next to each other. The two negative signs turn into a positive, giving us a final answer of 12𝑥 plus 48.

This is because when we subtract a negative number we actually move up our number line or increase our number. Therefore, the simplified version of the expression parentheses negative two 𝑥 take away eight multiplied by negative six equals 12𝑥 plus 48.
