What fraction is marked on the number line?

We can see our number line goes from zero to one. The number line represents one whole number. And it has been divided into equal parts. Let’s count the equal parts.

One has been divided into 10 equal parts. We write this as a fraction called a tenth. One divided into 10 equal parts. So each division on the number line is worth one-tenth.

Now, what we have to do is count along in tenths on the number line to see which fraction is marked: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. So the fraction marked on the number line is eight tenths.

We found our answer by working out what each division was worth on the number line. And we counted in tenths until we found the fraction marked.
