Which two categories can the objects on these cards be sorted into? Flowers and not flowers, dogs and not dogs, or children and not children.

If we were to sort the objects on the cards into two groups, what would the groups be called? Can we sort these objects into groups called flowers and not flowers? Do any of the pictures on the cards show flowers? No, they don’t show flowers. Could we sort the cards into two groups called dogs and not dogs? Yes, we could. Some of the pictures are dogs.

The first picture shows a dog. So we could sort the dog into this group. The second picture shows a cat. So we could put that in the group called not dogs. The third picture would go in the group called dogs. The rabbit would go in the group which are not dogs. This picture belongs in the group called dogs. We can also categorize this picture as a dog. The final picture shows a mouse. We would categorize this card as not dogs.

So we can sort the objects on these cards into the categories dogs and not dogs.
