Find the equation that answers this problem. Today, Hannah is 37 years old and William is 61 years old. How old was William 23 years ago?

We’re given information in the question about Hannah and William’s ages. We know that today Hannah is 37 years old. And William is 61 years old. We need to work out how old William was 23 years ago. As William is currently 61, this is our start point. 23 years ago, he would be 23 years younger. So we need to subtract 23. The calculation that will work out William’s age 23 years ago is 61 minus 23.

We could work out this answer in several ways. One way would be to subtract 20 and then subtract three. 61 minus 20 is equal to 41. 41 minus three is equal to 38. This means that 61 minus 23 equals 38. This is the equation that answers the problem of working out William’s age 23 years ago.
