Here, we have our road, here’s Madison’s house, and here is the library. We already know that the distance between Madison’s house and the library is 10 and one-half miles. We also know that the library is one-half of a mile farther from her house than the gym. And if the library is farther, then the gym is closer to Madison’s house. We know that the gym is one-half a mile closer to Madison’s house.

Using all this information, we need to figure out the distance from Madison’s house to the gym. To find the answer, we take the 10 and a half miles that it is from Madison’s house to the library and we subtract the one-half miles closer that the gym is to her house. 10 and a half minus a half equals 10.

The distance from Madison’s house to the gym is 10 miles.
