Are lines ππ and ππ congruent?
What do we know about congruent lines? Congruent lines have the same length. And that means we need to know if line segment ππ has the same length as line segment ππ. Line segment ππ has a length of eight π plus four π. Line segment ππ has a length of six π plus six π.
The π variable will stay the same. And weβll add their coefficients together. Weβll add the numbers in front of the π together. Here, eight plus four equals 12. And the π stays the same. If we add the coefficients again for ππ, we get six plus six equals 12. And we bring down the π. Weβre seeing that line segment ππ measures 12π. And line segment ππ measures 12π. They have the same length.
And that means yes, these lines are congruent.
