What is slope of the function represented by the given figure?

Slope is the vertical change over the horizontal change. So vertical means up and down. Horizontal means left and right. So when we look at this line, we need to go left to right. So let’s go ahead and pick two points that it goes through.

It passes through the points zero, 10 and five, zero. So to get from zero, 10 to five, zero, how do we need to change vertically? We will need to go down 10, which will be negative for a vertical change, and then right five. So our slope will be negative 10 over five.

However, we need to simplify. And negative 10 divided by five is negative two. Therefore, the slope of this function will be negative two or could be written as negative two over one.
