Find the missing number on the given number line.

The labels on this number line show intervals of 10000. 10000, 20000, 30000, 40000, and finally 50000. So, as we say, each jump between the numbers is a jump of 10000. Now, we can see that just after the 20000 label, there is a missing number. And the question asks us to find this missing number. We need to give it a value.

And for us to be able to do this, we need to work out what each of the notches on this number line represents. What is the value of each of the smaller intervals? Let’s count how many intervals there are in each jump of 10000. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. And this is where our 20000 label is. There are 10 intervals and the whole jump is worth 10000. So, each individual notch must be worth 1000. We can see that our missing number is two intervals past 20000. Let’s count in 1000s. 1000, 2000. Our missing number is 2000 more than 20000. And so, our missing number is 22000.
