The number 43 is made from four tens and three ones. And we need to take away five ones. We can make this easier by breaking number five into two parts. Three and two makes five. First, we can take away the three from 43. 43 take away one is 42. 43 take away two is 41. And 43 take away three is 40. Now we just need to take away the two. 40 take away two is 38.
