Use the coordinate plane to find the coordinates of the origin and point 𝐶.

We begin by recalling that the coordinates of any point can be written as an ordered pair in the form 𝑥, 𝑦 as shown. The horizontal axis is the 𝑥-axis and the vertical axis is the 𝑦-axis. And since the points 𝐴, 𝐵, and 𝐶 lie in the first quadrant, they will all have positive 𝑥- and 𝑦-coordinates.

We are told that point 𝐴 has coordinates one, two. This is because we move one unit along the positive 𝑥-axis and two units up the vertical 𝑦-axis. Likewise, point 𝐵 has coordinates three, one as we move three units horizontally and one unit vertically to reach point 𝐵.

In this question, we are asked to find the coordinates of the origin and point 𝐶. Let’s begin with the origin, which is always located at the same point on our coordinate grid. The origin has coordinates zero, zero. Now, let’s consider point 𝐶. Point 𝐶 lies two units in the 𝑥-direction so has an 𝑥-coordinate equal to two. It lies one unit in the 𝑦-direction so has a 𝑦-coordinate equal to one. Hence, the coordinates of point 𝐶 are two, one.

We can therefore conclude that the two answers to this question are zero, zero and two, one.
