Two multiplied by zero equals what? What is two times zero?

What are two groups of zeros is another way of saying this question. Let’s make two groups to help us understand what it means to multiply by zero. Here’s one cube. Here’s two groups of one cube. So, we know two times one is two. Here are two cubes. Now, we have two groups of two cubes. And so, we know two times two or two lots of two equals four. We have four cubes altogether. Let’s try one more. We have five cubes. Now, we have two groups of five cubes. Two times five equals 10. We have 10 cubes altogether.

Now, let’s think about the question we have to answer. We have zero cubes. There are no cubes in the first circle. Now, we have two lots of zero cubes. We still can’t see any cubes. Two multiplied by zero equals zero. There are zero things in two groups of zero.

Two multiplied by zero equals zero.
