The diagram shows a simple outline of the female reproductive system. What number indicates the uterus?

Let’s go over the function of each of these structures in the female reproductive system in order to answer our question.

We’ll start with number 4, which indicates the vagina. The vagina is a muscular tube that is involved in sexual reproduction. This is where semen, which contains sperm, is deposited. Sperm is able to combine with an egg cell, which is released by a structure called the ovary. This is indicated by number 5.

Each month, an egg cell, or ovum, is released by the ovary in a process called ovulation. The egg cell is released into a structure called the fallopian tube, which is sometimes called the oviduct. This is indicated by number 1. Inside the fallopian tube, a sperm cell, which was introduced after sexual intercourse, can combine with the egg cell. This is called fertilization.

The fertilized egg cell can then make its way to a structure called the uterus. This is indicated by number 2. The fertilized egg cell can then implant inside the uterine lining, where it can start a pregnancy and develop into a baby. The baby will be born after about nine months of development in the uterus.

Finally, number 3 indicates the cervix. This is a muscular ring of tissue that separates the uterus and vagina and also acts in containing the baby as it develops.

Getting back to our question, the number that indicates the uterus is the number 2.
