Add three to 345. Hint: Use the place-value blocks if you need to.

We have to add three to 345. We’re going to use column addition, and we’re going to use the place value blocks to help. The number 345 is a three-digit number. It has five ones, four tens, and three hundreds. The number that we’re adding is a one-digit number. It only has a ones digit, so we just need to add in the ones column. We have five ones, and we need to add three more. Five plus three is eight. There’s nothing to add to the four tens in 345, so the total number of tens is four. And there’s nothing to add to our three hundreds, which means the total number of hundreds is three. 345 plus three equals 348.
