Ethan wants to buy one teddy bear for his son and one doll for his daughter. How much do they cost in total?

We can see from the price tag that the teddy bear costs 24 LE and the doll costs the same amount. To find the total cost, we need to add these two amounts together. What is 24 plus 24? Let’s add using the number line. We’re going to start at 24. And if we partition or break 24 apart into its tens and ones, we could start by adding 20 and then add the four. So what’s 24 plus 20? It’s 44. Now, what we need to add is the four, and four more than 44 is 48. The total cost of the doll and the teddy bear is 48 LE. We started at 24 on the number line and counted forward 20 and then four more. The cost of the teddy bear and the doll is 48 LE.
