Round 83.232 to the nearest hundredth.

In order to round to the nearest hundredth, we need to identify the hundredth place. We have a three in our hundredths place. The next step in rounding is looking at the digit to the right of the hundredth place. There’s a two in our thousandths place. The two in the thousandths place is less than or equal to four. Therefore, we round our number down. The digit in the hundredth place will stay the same and everything to the right of the hundredth place becomes a zero.

83.23 stays the same and our two becomes a zero. Finally, we can simplify by dropping the zero. 83.232 rounded to the nearest hundredth equals 83.23.
