Express the following ratio in its simplest form: one-eighth of a liter to 675 milliliters.

Our first step here is to ensure that our units are the same. We recall that one liter is equal to 1000 milliliters. This means that in order to convert from liters to milliliters, we multiply by 1000. In this case, we need to multiply one-eighth by 1000. As 1000 is the same as 1000 over one, one-eighth multiplied by this is the same as 1000 divided by eight.

Both of these values are divisible by four, which leaves us with 250 divided by two. This is equal to 125. One-eighth of a liter is equivalent to 125 milliliters. We can therefore write the ratio as 125 to 675. Both of these values are divisible by 25. We know that 125 divided by 25 is equal to five. There are four 25s in 100. So there will be 24 25s in 600. 675 divided by 25 is therefore equal to 27.

The ratio one-eighth of a liter to 675 milliliters written in its simplest form is five to 27.
