Video Transcript

Which two categories can the objects on these cards be sorted into? Animals and not animals, food and not food, or cars and not cars.

So we’re being asked which categories the objects on the cards can be sorted into. A category is another name for a group or set of objects. Let’s take a closer look at the objects.

There’s a pizza, a book, a cheeseburger, a banana, an aeroplane, a ball, and a cupcake. Could we sort any of these cards into a category called animals? Can you see any animals? No, there are no animals. Could we sort any of the cards into a category called food? Is there any food? Yes, we could. The pizza is food. The cheeseburger is food. So is the banana and the cupcake. Then, we could put the remaining objects into the group called not food: the book, the aeroplane, and the ball. But there are no pictures of cars on any of the cards.

So the two categories we can sort the objects on the cards into are food and not food.
