This thermometer shows temperatures in both degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. Work out what 25 degrees Celsius is in Fahrenheit.
The arrow shows where 25 degrees Celsius is on the thermometer, halfway between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Fahrenheit is halfway between 68 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. So we need to find the difference between 68 and 86 degrees.
To make this easier, we can partition 68 into 60 and eight. 86 take away 60 is 26. 26 take away eight is 18. The number we’re looking for is halfway between 68 and 86. So we can halve the difference, which is nine. 18 divided by two is nine. Then we can add nine to 68 degrees to give us our temperature in Fahrenheit. 68 plus nine is 77. 25 degrees Celsius is 77 degrees in Fahrenheit.
