Ben ate half a pizza. Which fraction shows the amount he ate? Circle it. A quarter, a third, two-quarters, or three-quarters.
We know that ben ate half a pizza. We can imagine that this is the whole pizza that Ben had to begin with. This is the half that Ben ate. And this is the half that Ben has left. We have to circle the fraction that shows the amount he ate. But none of these fractions say a half! So we need to find the fraction which is equal to a half.
Is a quarter equal to a half? If Ben were to divide his pizza into four equal parts, each part would be one-quarter. Ben ate more than a quarter. Ben ate two quarters, which is this fraction right here, two out of four pieces. Two-quarters is equal to a half. The fraction which shows the amount of pizza that Ben ate is two-quarters. And we’ve circled it.
