Hannah wants to change the location of her rectangular desk. If she moves it only by translation, will it fit exactly into one of the other corners of the room?
Let’s think about what a translation is. A translation is moving the object without rotating it or resizing it. You might think of it as sliding. If you slid the desk to the right, it could fit here. If we slid the desk up, it could fit in the top left corner.
Our question is asking will it fit into at least one of the corners? And we’ve shown that, yes, that’s true.
