What fraction is shaded?

We need to remember what a fraction is. A fraction is a part out of the whole. And in this case, we’re looking at the shaded part compared to the total, compared to the whole shape. There is one shaded piece, one red piece here. And there are two total pieces. There’s one shaded piece and one unshaded piece. The fraction here is one over two. Another way to say this is one-half. One-half of this circle is shaded.
