How many rectangular prisms can you count?

So what is a rectangular prism? A rectangular prism is a 3D shape, which has six rectangular faces. It’s also known as a cuboid. Faces are the sides of a shape. So a rectangular prism must have sides or faces, which are made from rectangles.

This 3D shape is a rectangular prism because it has rectangular faces. This 3D shape has two faces that we can see. Are either of them rectangles? No, we can see a circular face and a curved face, but no rectangles.

How about this 3D shape? We can’t see how many faces it has. But the three faces that we can see are all made from rectangles. So we found one rectangular prism.

How about this 3D shape? Again, we can’t see all of the faces. But the three faces we can see are rectangles. So here, we have a second rectangular prism.

We can see that this 3D shape has a circular face and a curved face, but no rectangular faces.

So we can count two rectangular prisms.
