Benjamin’s test scores in chemistry were 69.4, 78, 81.1, 69.1, and 76.4. Determine his average test score, and using the table, determine his grade.

We’ve been asked to determine Benjamin’s average test score, which usually refers to the mean average. The mean is calculated by finding the sum of all the values in a data set and dividing this by the number of values there are.

Looking at this data set, we can see that there are five values. The sum of these values is 374. So, the mean of the data set, which will tell us Benjamin’s average test score, is 374 over five, which is 74.8.

Finally, we need to use the table to determine Benjamin’s grade in chemistry. We can see that a score between 70 and 79 corresponds to a grade C. So, we can conclude that Benjamin’s average, or mean, test score is 74.8, and his grade is a C.
