The summer Olympic Games occur every four years. One particular Olympic Games took place in 2004. In which years did the next three occur?

In this question, we’re given one of the years when the Olympic Games took place, which is 2004. And we’re asked to find the years when the next three summer Olympic Games were held. Because we know they take place every four years, we can skip count in fours to find the answer.

The number 2004 is at the start of the a two thousands. And so we’re not going to cross a hundreds or a thousands boundary just by adding three lots of four. So all we need to do is to look at the tens and the ones places. Four plus four equals eight. So 2004 plus four equals 2008. Eight plus four equals 12. So 2008 plus four equals 2012. And finally, 12 plus four equals 16. So 2012 plus four equals 2016.

And so after 2004, the next three Olympic Games were held in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
