In this question, we’re told the ages of two brothers and we have to find the difference between their ages. We know that Benjamin is nine and his brother is two years old. To help us find the difference, we could use a number line. We can start by adding Benjamin’s age. He’s nine years old. And we know his brother is two years old. What is the difference between their ages?

To find the difference, we could start at two and count forwards till we reach nine. Or we could start at nine and count back until we reach two. Let’s start at two: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. The difference between the two brothers ages is seven years.
