The weather forecast predicted rainfall in April to be two inches less than normal. Express, as an integer, the amount of rainfall that was below normal in April.

Normal rainfall we will keep in the middle. So if we are expecting two inches less than normal, that would be below normal, whereas if we were expecting above normal, that would be in a positive direction. It would be more than the normal amount. So we want to express as an integer the amount of rainfall that was below normal.

So if we used a number line and let the normal be in the middle, so at zero, and we wanted to represent what the weather forecast predicted the rainfall in April to be, and we want that to be two inches less than normal, we will need to go to the left two, which will be in the negative direction. And we wanted to express this as an integer. And negative two is an integer.

Therefore, negative two will be our final answer.
