### Video Transcript

Our shape has been divided into six equal parts. When we divide a shape or a number into six equal parts, we call each part a sixth. We have to work out which fraction is shaded. Three of our equal parts are shaded. Three out of six parts is three-sixths.

We could simplify this fraction. Six is double three. Three times two is six. Six divided by two is three. When we divide a number by two, it’s the same as halving the number. So, we can say that three is half of six. Three-sixths is equal to one-half. The fraction of the shape which is shaded is one-half. Three-sixths is equal to one-half.
