Which answer is equal to two-fifths of a liter? Is it A) 400 cubic centimeters? B) four cubic decimeters. C) 0.4 cubic meters. Or D) 40 milliliters?

Let’s firstly recall some of our conversions for units of capacity and volume. One liter is equal to 1000 milliliters. One milliliter of capacity is equal to one cubic centimeter of volume. Our first step is to calculate how many milliliters are in two-fifths of a liter. We already know that one liter is equal to 1000 milliliters. This means that we can work out how many milliliters are in one-fifth of a liter by dividing 1000 by five. 10 divided by five is equal to two. This means that 1000 divided by five is equal to 200. There are 200 milliliters in one-fifth of a liter.

We need to work out how many milliliters are in two-fifths of a liter. We need to add 200 and 200. This is the same as multiplying 200 by two. 200 multiplied by two is equal to 400. Two-fifths of a liter is the same as 400 milliliters. This immediately rules out option D, which said 40 milliliters. As one milliliter is equal to one cubic centimeter, 400 milliliters will be equal to 400 cubic centimeters. The correct answer is option A, two-fifths of a liter is equal to 400 cubic centimeters.
