Which object is shaped like a cylinder? We’re given four possible choices. Is an ice cream cone shaped like a cylinder? Or what about a marble? Do you think a tin could be a cylinder? Or maybe this present?

To find the answer, let’s think about what shape a cylinder is. A cylinder is a type of 3D shape. The first thing that we know about cylinders is that they have two flat faces that are circles. And those faces are on either end of the cylinder. The second thing that we know about cylinders is that they have a curved surface. And this curved surface goes all the way around the cylinder. Which of these objects has two flat faces and a curved surface?

The present has lots of flat faces but they’re all either squares or rectangles. And there’s no curved surface. So we know that the object is not the present. Each of the other three objects do have curved surfaces. But which one also has two flat faces? It’s the tin. It has one flat face on the top. And there’s one that we can’t see in the picture. But it’s on the bottom. And so the object that’s shaped like a cylinder is the tin.
