To make 32 muffins, one cup of sugar is needed. Use the ratio table to find how many cups of sugar are needed to make 96 muffins.
The first step will be to take the information we’re given and put it into a table. In our table, we’ll have the number of muffins and the amount of sugar needed for 32 muffins. We need one cup of sugar. If we used two cups of sugar, that’s two times the amount of sugar. And that means it would make 32 times two muffins, or 32 plus 32, which is 64.
Our goal is to find out how much sugar we need to make 96 muffins. We know that 64 plus 32 equals 96. Our first row is how much sugar we need for 32 muffins, and our second row is how much sugar we need for 64 muffins. 32 plus 64 equals 96. And that means the cups of sugar we’ll need will be one plus two. It would take three cups of sugar to make 96 muffins.
We could also write this as a fraction. 32 muffins over one cup of sugar, 32 over one, is equal to 96 over blank. Again, we need to think, well, how do we go from 32 to 96? 96 equals 32 times three. And if we multiply our numerator by three, we need to multiply our denominator by three as well. One times three equals three. Again, this shows that you would need three cups of sugar to make 96 muffins.
