What value does the digit five represent in the number sixty-seven and five hundred and thirty-eight thousandths?

Here is the number we’re working with, sixty-seven and five hundred and thirty-eight thousandths. And we wanna know what value does this five represent. In our place value system, the value to the right [left] of the decimal point represents ones. So we have seven ones in this number. And the value to the right of the decimal point always represents the tenths, the tenths place. Here we have a five in that position, which means we have five tenths. And when we write five tenths by itself, we write 0.5.

The value that the digit five represents in this number is five tenths.
