Express five and four tenths as a decimal.
There are a few things we can remember to help us solve this problem. When dealing with numbers in written form, every time we see the word “and,” that’s where the decimal place goes. Five and four tenths means five decimal four tenths. The number five is a whole number. It comes before the decimal place.
The next helpful word we’re given is the word “tenths.” In our place value system, the tenths are the first digit to the right of a decimal place. We put the number four in the tenths place. Five and four tenths written as a decimal looks like this: 5.4.
