How many green stars are there? How many more yellow stars are there than green stars?
To answer the first question, we need to count the number of green stars: one, two, three. To find out how many more yellow stars there are than green stars, we’ll need to count the yellow stars: one, two, three, four, five.
To find the difference between the number of yellow and green stars, we could work out five minus three, which is two. We could cross out three of the yellow stars and three of the green stars to see that the difference is two. This is because there are still two yellow stars left over.
So the answer to the first question is three. There are three green stars and there are two more yellow stars than green stars.
