Pamela and Harry each adopted a kitten. They weighed the kittens over a number of weeks and recorded the results in the double line graph below. Between which two weeks did Pamela’s kitten gain the least weight?

Well we’ve been given a double line graph down here. We can see that the 𝑦-axis up here is the weight in pounds of the kitten, and we can see that the 𝑥-axis along here are the weeks, one, two, three, four, five weeks. And we’ve also got a key which tells us that the blue line represents Pamela’s kitten and the black line represents Harry’s kitten.

Now the question is asking specifically about Pamela’s kitten, so we’ll be looking at the blue line. And when it’s saying between which two weeks did it gain the least weight, so to gain the least weight, it means that the increase from one week to the next is as little as possible. So looking bef- from week one to week two, the kitten goes up from one pound up to two pounds. So that’s an increase of a pound. Between weeks two and three, it stays at two pounds. And between three and four, it goes up a pound. And between weeks four and five, it goes up two pounds. So the section of the graph which shows the least increase in weight is this one here, between the second and third weeks.

So let’s write out our answer. Pamela’s kitten gains the least weight between weeks two and three.
