The ages of a father and his child can be expressed in the ratio four to one. Given that the child is seven years old, how old is the father?

We’re told in the question that the ratio is four to one. This is the ratio of the father’s age to his child’s age. We’re told that the child is seven years old and need to calculate the corresponding age of the father. As one multiplied by seven is equal to seven, we need to multiply four by seven to work out the age of the father. Four multiplied by seven is 28. We can therefore conclude that the father is 28 years old.
