Lesson Plan: Earth and the Sun: Seasons
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe how the movement of Earth relative to the Sun causes seasons.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify Earth’s axis, equator, and hemispheres,
- identify that Earth’s axis is tilted,
- describe how the movement of Earth around the Sun causes seasons,
- link the position of Earth on its orbit around the Sun to the season,
- link the position of Earth on its orbit around the Sun to the length of day and night.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the names of the four seasons,
- the length of Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the weather in different seasons.
