Lesson Plan: Reproduction Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe asexual and sexual reproduction and outline advantages and disadvantages of each.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall that reproduction is the process by which new organisms are produced,
- outline that sexual reproduction requires two individuals and that a gamete (sex cell) of one organism will fertilize the gamete of another,
- outline that asexual reproduction only requires one individual and will produce offspring that are genetically identical to the parent,
- compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction in both plants and animals,
- explain the advantages and disadvantages of asexual and sexual reproduction.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the concept of reproduction as producing offspring,
- plants and animals possessing specialized sex organs.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the detailed process of fertilization or pollination,
- the stages of the cell cycle or mitosis,
- gamete formation.
