Objectives
Students will be able to
- use place value models to regroup when subtracting two decimals with one decimal place,
- make connections between concrete models used to subtract two decimals with one decimal place and the written column method,
- subtract two decimals with one decimal place without regrouping using the column method,
- subtract two decimals with one decimal place with regrouping using the column method,
- solve word problems involving subtracting two decimals with one decimal place.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- subtracting decimals using models,
- using place value models to represent decimals,
- the place value of tenths.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- subtracting decimals with more than one decimal place,
- subtracting more than two decimals.
