Lesson Plan: Area between a Curve and a Line Mathematics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply integration to find the area between the curve of a function and a horizontal or vertical straight line.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use definite integrals to find the area between the curve of a given function and any horizontal line of the form ,
- use definite integrals to find the area between the curve of a given function and any vertical line of the form ,
- use definite integrals to find the area between the curve of a given function and a line, where the area is represented graphically.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- definite integrals.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the area between a curve and a line that is not vertical or horizontal,
- the area between two curves,
- improper integrals.
