Lesson Plan: Adding and Subtracting Lengths: Numbers up to 100

Objectives
Students will be able to
- use models to find the total length of objects,
- use models to find the difference between lengths of objects,
- solve simple word problems involving adding and subtracting lengths up to 100 cm,
- write addition and subtraction equations representing the problems.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- adding the length of two objects up to 20 cm,
- finding the difference in length between two objects up to 20 cm,
- writing addition and subtraction equations,
- basic addition and subtraction strategies.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- adding more than 3 lengths,
- subtracting more than 2 lengths,
- values greater than 100 cm,
- comparing lengths.
