Lesson Plan: Rotational Kinematics Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to model the change of the position with time of objects that move along circular paths.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define the angle of a complete rotation as 2𝜋 radians,
  • convert between degrees and radians,
  • define angular speed 𝜔 as the rate of change of angular displacement Δ𝜃Δ𝑡,
  • define angular acceleration as the rate of change of angular speed Δ𝜔=𝛼Δ𝑡,
  • apply the kinematic equations of rotational motion 𝜔=𝜔+𝛼𝑡, 𝜃=𝜔𝑡+12𝛼𝑡, and 𝜔=𝜔+2𝛼𝜃.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • linear kinematic equations,
  • the fact that the angle of a complete rotation = 360.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • forces.
