Lesson Plan: Least Common Denominators
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the least common denominator of a pair of proper fractions with unlike denominators.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recognize the relation between the least common denominator and the least common multiple,
- identify the least common denominator of two fractions with unlike denominators,
- rewrite a pair of fractions with unlike denominators using their least common denominator.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- common multiples,
- equivalent fractions using multiplication.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the addition and subtraction of fractions,
- the multiplication and division of fractions.
