Lesson Plan: Taking Care of Teeth
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the parts of a tooth, describe the cause of tooth decay and explore ways in which it can be prevented.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the parts of a tooth: the crown and the root,
- identify the layers of a tooth: enamel, dentine, and pulp,
- describe the cause of tooth decay,
- describe the ways in which tooth decay can be prevented,
- explore the effect different foods and drinks have on teeth.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying and describing the function of the three types of teeth: incisors, canines, and molars,
- healthy eating habits.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the types of teeth in carnivores and herbivores,
- nutrition.
